About the Owners
Flavor by Creative Catering owners Scott Morrison & Karry Reginato Morrison, native of Sydney River & Mira respectively, both graduated from Riverview in 1995. After graduating, they both moved to Halifax to attend St. Mary’s University to obtain a Bachelor of Arts Degree. During their final year at St. Mary’s, Scott took a job washing dishes, preparing salads & desserts at Jon Alan’s Steakhouse. This is where Scott developed his passion for cooking. Soon after, Scott enrolled in the NSCC apprenticeship program for Culinary Arts and spent the next 4 years working in various Halifax fine dining restaurants and training under a variety of Chefs.
In late 2000, Scott became an Inter-provincially Certified Red-Seal Chef. It was in that year,as well, that Scott also won a silver medal competing in the Nova Scotia Provincial Culinary Arts Skills Competition. Scott has since competed in several cooking competitions finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Later in the year 2000, Scott & Karry began their teaching careers. They traveled to the University of Maine at Fort Kent to complete their Bachelor of Education Degree. Scott & Karry graduated with honours from Fort Kent in 2002.
Soon after, Scott & Karry traveled to Fort McMurray, where they taught elementary and Jr. High French Immersion, respectively, for the next 4 years. During this time, Scott also continued to work as a Chef in a fine dining café. The last year spent in Fort McMurray, Scott and Karry, began a catering company called Creative Catering that specialized catering in private dinner parties, business meetings, personalized high end catered functions and weddings.
In the summer of 2007, Cape Breton drew Scott & Karry home, where they began teaching within the Cape Breton Victoria School Board. As the year progressed, they began to pursue their dream of opening a restaurant in Cape Breton. Scott used his experience and knowledge to design the menu and concept for Flavor, while Karry used her keen eye for design and her creativity to design and decorate the interior of the restaurant. Scott & Karry have traveled extensively throughout France, Italy and Greece learning about the various wine regions of Europe, traditional European dishes, as well as, the style of bistro that has shaped Flavor into the way it is today.
